Potsdam, the capital of the state of Brandenburg, was again the victim of a cyber attack. Those responsible have cut all of the administration's Internet connections. Since the whole thing already happened in 2020, you should actually be well prepared.

At the moment, nothing is going on in the Potsdam administration of the state capital of Brandenburg. Another cyber attack was successful and probably paralyzed everything for the first time. Officials say: “As a precaution, the state capital of Potsdam switched off the administration’s Internet connection today and can therefore no longer be reached by e-mail with immediate effect.”

All systems offline for now

“We have decided to take our systems offline for security reasons. We have indications of a cyber attack and are working closely with the state and security authorities," said Mayor Mike Schubert. "We feel compelled to ask for your patience with all matters relating to the citizens' service facilities," continued Schubert.

Due to switching off the network connections, the administration is currently unable to send or receive e-mails. All process software can currently only be used to a limited extent. In particular, applications for identity cards and passports or registrations and re-registrations are currently not possible. At least the phones are probably not affected.

Second attack since 2020

One can only hope that the administration and the IT specialists in Potsdam have learned something new. Because as early as January 22, 2020, an analysis determined that there had been an attack on a Citrix system. This had a significant impact on service delivery and digital communications capability.

The effects lasted for more than a year, because in a communication from the administration on January 22.01.2021, XNUMX, it had to be admitted that some services are still not working. Latest news The city administration wants to communicate on the subject of cyber attacks in 2022 via Twitter.

Long list of attacks

In addition to administrations, companies are usually the target of the attackers. A list shows what was already happening in 2022: companies like Knauf building materialsHygiene article manufacturer CWS and Medicare and Electronics manufacturer Semikron were hit. Also the IHK once had to report the loss of their website. All companies have had problems with their systems for a long time. But everyone communicated the attack openly and informed their customers.
