The manufacturer of medical aids medi, based in Bayreuth, only greets its customers on the website with the information that the systems had to be shut down after a cyber attack. Since the website isn't working, there could have been a DDoS attack like the recent one at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

The number of large medium-sized companies that have been victims of a cyber attack is getting longer and longer. Now it has hit medi, the manufacturer of medical aids based in Bayreuth, where the strategic business areas of medi Medical Phlebology, Orthopaedics, Lymphology, Wound Care and Footcare are located.

Now medi according to IHK, Knauf, Semikron or CWS

The medi company has now fallen victim to a cyber attack. Before that, it already had companies of a similar size as Knauf building materials, Hygiene article manufacturer CWS or Electronics manufacturer Semikron met. Recently she had to report the loss of their website to the IHK. All companies have had problems getting their website systems up and running again for a long time in order to take their orders. This is probably how medi is doing now, since they are already putting off their customers via social media, such as Facebook. They are working tirelessly to fix the systems. It is not yet possible to state when that will be. One can only hope that medi will not be within the statistical time window of 21 days. According to studies, this is how long companies need on average to bring their systems back up to date.

medi website only offers a short text

The medi website currently only shows a short information text:

“We are currently doing everything we can to be able to resume work safely as soon as possible. Until then, we ask for your understanding that we are currently only available to a very limited extent. Our online offers (e.g. medi e-shop, the websites) are temporarily unavailable.

We thank you for your support and patience during this difficult time and are working feverishly on a solution so that we can be back for you soon. Please refrain from asking questions about this, also for investigative reasons we cannot give any further details. As soon as we have resolved the situation, we will inform you again."

Long downtimes can cost market shares

Since medi also had its entire shop system on the website, it is to be hoped that at least the internal ordering system will still work. However, since you have to put off people who want to order on the social media channels yourself, this does not look good at the moment. It remains to be hoped that medi can repair everything faster than, for example, the administration of the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district. Administration there was paralyzed by ransomware in July 2021 and a year later the last problems are still being fixed.
