As the mirror reports, the German Press Agency (dpa) was probably hit by a hacker attack. The mirror has an internal email in which the employees are informed. Apparently ransomware has struck and encrypted systems.
The list of ransomware attacks is growing prominently. Because according to Spiegel, the attack on the German Press Agency – dpa for short – was successful. However, it is not yet entirely clear whether the dpa structure is affected or whether only one service provider was hit. It is not clear whether the attack affected dpa's production, although the attackers managed to encrypt computers, servers and other systems.
dpa - Production probably affected
The dpa has not yet published anything about the process itself. It is therefore not clear how extensive the attack is and whether dpa systems were perhaps affected. Der Spiegel also has no evidence as to whether further data or even data from employees has leaked. Because the service provider for printing and sending wage and salary slips from dpa employees is said to be affected.
The dpa is the second victim from the media world in just a few days. Because a few days ago the newspaper Heilbronner voice attacked. The editors were probably also hit by ransomware and the systems encrypted. The damage is probably so great that the printed version of the Heilbronner part could not appear. At least they were probably able to let the digital version appear.
Ransomware: One victim at a time
In 2022, the list of German companies attacked is getting longer and longer. A short time ago it has the baby food manufacturer Hipp hit and even the ERP Service provider Wilken. Before that, it already had companies of a similar size as Knauf building materials, Hygiene article manufacturer CWS and Medicare and Electronics manufacturer Semikron met. Also the IHK once had to report the loss of their website. All companies have had problems with their systems for a long time. But everyone communicated the attack openly and informed their customers.
