More resilience against ransomware for SMBs: The latest version of the all-in-one data protection solution Veritas Backup Exec offers new malware detection, role-based access control and faster backup and recovery.

Secure multi-cloud data management: Veritas has announced further developments for Veritas Backup Exec. More than 45.000 small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) worldwide rely on the uniform backup and recovery solution. The latest updates include malware detection capabilities, role-based access control, and other optimizations for quickly backing up and restoring business-critical data.

Ransomware: More protection and data security

With the increase in ransomware attacks, concerns about data security are growing across all organizations. A study by Veritas found that 78 percent of German companies have fallen victim to such an attack in the last two years. The majority of respondents also reported that data security risks are increasing. Nevertheless, many small companies in particular forego cyber insurance or protection against cyber risks because they believe that their small size means they are more likely to fly under the radar of cyber criminals. They are just as vulnerable to ransomware attacks.

Martin Böker, Director Channel DACH at Veritas, explains: “The current version of Backup Exec offers many new features with real benefits for existing and future customers. We've already seen strong revenue growth, but we now see even greater potential for ourselves and our channel partners. Backup Exec’s new features are designed to address growing challenges in data security, user access control and backup performance optimization.”

All-in-one solution is intended to make operation easier

Veritas Backup Exec's integrated approach eliminates the need for multiple standalone products and provides small and medium-sized businesses with a powerful, cost-effective solution to address the dynamic changes in the data and security landscape. Veritas continually expands the solution's capabilities and defenses, following a rapid development cycle. The innovative features of the latest version of Veritas Backup Exec include:

Malware detection

Provides SMBs with an additional line of defense against the spread of viruses in their data environment. With Microsoft Defender-powered malware detection in Veritas Backup Exec, VMware and Hyper-V backups can be checked at any time, for example before restoring data.

Role-based security

Restricts data access to a user's specific role. If an account is compromised by hackers, they can only damage the limited data associated with that particular user's account.

Faster backup and recovery

Improves protection with continuous incremental backups for VMware and Hyper-V. Virtual machine backup is now more efficient by backing up multiple virtual disks at once, allowing for instant virtual machine recovery.
