Patient data theft protection for large medical offices

The Augsburg security gateway manufacturer LINOGATE is launching a firewall for large and group practices. The "Praxis-Wächter" Internet firewall, which is already installed in many medical practices, is now suitable for use in environments with higher performance requirements.

This means that the "firewall for doctors" is also suitable for practices that are equipped with far more than 10 Internet-enabled devices.

IT security guideline § 75b SGB V of the KBV prescribes an internet firewall

Since April 2021, every medical practice has had to be equipped with an internet firewall in order to comply with BSI basic protection and European data protection. Because in the event of a violation, especially the latter, practice operators face drastic fines.

IT baseline protection for large practices - a question of performance

Even before guideline § 75b came into effect, practices with up to 10 computers were able to protect themselves effectively against cyber attacks by using the “Praxis-Wächer” firewall. However, since the completeness of the scans is particularly important when checking incoming and outgoing data streams, the previously available version of the practice monitor was not recommended for practices with more than 10 Internet-enabled devices. Because in order to reliably ward off cyber attacks, all data streams are routed through several security modules and only released when all checks have been carried out - and that's where performance is required.

Current cyber threat "log4j" doesn't stand a chance

The safety structure of the Praxis-Wächter includes a number of proven open-source modules. There is no activated "log4j" on any of these security modules. This makes the practice guard unassailable for all hacking methods that want to use the logging4java services. However, if an attacker wants to infiltrate a computer in the practice that has the logf4j module, this can be prevented by the protective functions "reverse proxy" and "intrusion prevention system (IPS)", which are components of the security equipment of the practice guardian are.
