The French mobile operator La Poste Mobile was hit by ransomware in early July. Almost two weeks after the attack, the website and the customer area are still unavailable.

Almost two weeks after the attack, there is only a sparse text page on the website of the French mobile phone provider La Poste Mobile. There the customer is informed that the classic website and the customer area are currently not available. However, mobile communications should continue to function undisturbed. The operator explicitly states this in the text: "Our IT teams are currently diagnosing the situation. Our first analyzes show that our servers, which are essential for the operation of your mobile connection, are well protected. On the other hand, files on La Poste Mobile employees' computers may be affected. Some of them may contain personally identifiable information.”

Possibly personal data affected

At the same time, La Poste Mobile must warn that personal data may also be affected by the ransomware. It is currently not known which ransomware the company is struggling with. The company may not only be blackmailed, but may also be faced with demands that the customer's personal data be published in the event of non-payment. This is all the rage with many ransomware attacks to put more pressure on the victim.

La Poste Mobile with millions of customers

La Poste Mobile is said to have around 2 million customers and a turnover of around 500 million euros. The website will continue to inform customers. Anyone who wants to know more, for example about the personal data and the further connection with the attack, can contact the company by e-mail.
