AV-Comparatives has published a review of 18 enterprise endpoint protection solutions: “Enterprise Endpoint Security Software 2022”. The test on Windows 10 64 took place in March and April 2022. The result shows some differences in performance.

The independent ISO-certified laboratory for evaluating security software AV-Comparatives has published the latest results of the Business Main-Test Series, in which a number of anti-virus products are evaluated in corporate environments. This results report is a precursor to the full report that will be released in July and will include a performance test and the product reviews.

18 company products in the test

In corporate environments, it is common for the system administrator to configure the products according to the manufacturer's guidelines. For the Enterprise Main Test Series, AV-Comparatives therefore asked all vendors to configure their respective products for an enterprise-oriented environment. The settings made are then used in all enterprise tests of the year and all relevant deviations from the standard settings are documented and listed by AV-Comparatives.

The following products have been tested (with the version currently available at the time of testing) on Windows 10 64-bit systems: Acronis, Avast, Bitdefender, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Cybereason, Elastic, ESET, G Data, K7, Kaspersky, Malwarebytes, Microsoft, Sophos, Trellix, VIPRE, VMware and WatchGuard.

The Real-World Protection Test examines the performance of leading antivirus solutions to assess their capabilities under conditions that users around the world experience every day. The preliminary results of this real-world protection test are based on 373 test cases (malicious URLs currently in circulation) tested from early March to late April. Of the 18 providers tested, nine achieved a protection rate of 99% or more, with Bitdefender and G Data achieving the highest protection rate at 99,7%.

The Malware Protection Test at Endpoint Security Software evaluates the ability of a security program to protect a system from infections by malicious files before, during or after execution. 1.007 recent malware samples were used for this test. Of the 18 vendors tested, 14 achieved a malware protection rate of 99% or more, with VMware, Acronis, Bitdefender, and Trellix earning the highest scores.

Again and again false alarms

To ensure that the tested programs do not protect the system at the expense of high false alarm rates, a false positive test is also carried out for the malware protection test. False positives are rated on a scale from “Noticeably High” to “Very Low”. A low to very low false positive rate is less than 15, the highest number of false positives is over 125. In the March-April Business Test, Acronis, ESET, Kaspersky, Microsoft, Avast, Bitdefender, Cybereason, Sophos, VIPRE, VMware and WatchGuard reached either the “Low” or “Very Low” level.
