Secure data exchange in the cloud - idgard

The topic of home office has taken on a new dimension due to the current pandemic. Many employees are still working at least partially from home and will do so in the foreseeable future.

With the rapid increase in remote work, the number of attack vectors is increasing at the same time - after all, cyber criminals are also taking advantage of the current situation. Companies must therefore provide their employees with user-friendly and secure options for working from home. Especially in times like this, the topic of "secure, flexible data exchange" is gaining in importance.

The operator-safe cloud

With the Sealed Cloud, idgard®, the business cloud from TÜV SÜD subsidiary uniscon, offers companies a patented concept that promises users the highest level of information security. The internationally patented sealing technology not only prevents external access, but also ensures that the operator himself has no access to the data of his users. In addition to SSL encryption with 2048 bits, which is used for data transfer from the end device to the Sealed Cloud, a number of innovative and interlocking technical measures in the data center ensure that any access to unencrypted server data is excluded.

Application and metadata are protected at all times by the zero trust architecture, both during transmission and during processing and storage. The hermetic sealing of the infrastructure creates a confidential data center that guarantees a much higher level of application and data security than many conventional systems. In addition, idgard® meets the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation, including principles such as Privacy by Design and Privacy by Default (see Art. 5, 25, 32 GDPR). In 2016, the service was certified by TÜViT in the highest protection class for cloud services according to the Trusted Cloud Data Protection Profile (TCDP).

Virtual project and data rooms

In addition to the file transfer functionalities - secure online storage, data synchronization and sending mail attachments - idgard® offers virtual project rooms. These enable the employees of a company to exchange data with one another and across company boundaries in an uncomplicated manner and in compliance with data protection regulations - regardless of where the individual employees of the company are. This of course includes the transfer of documents, but messages can also be sent so that collaboration in the team works smoothly.

The solution also offers the option of creating virtual data rooms. Activities in it, such as the retrieval of documents or participation in votes, are documented seamlessly and in an audit-proof manner. Audit security is particularly important in connection with compliance. The virtual data rooms in idgard® are ideally suited for due diligence checks, in process documentation or in board communication. Thanks to the simple and user-friendly design, even employees without previous experience can find their way around and costly training is not necessary.

Full data sovereignty for the user

"We are increasingly realizing how important it is for German companies that they as users have full data sovereignty at all times," says Ulrich Ganz, Director Software Engineering at uniscon. “This is the only way to ensure that sensitive business data cannot be viewed at any time.” He emphasizes that it is not only the technology that plays a decisive role, but also the location of the provider and data center: Since German providers do not comply with the US CLOUD Act, a possible disclosure of self-encrypted information to US authorities is already legally excluded. With idgard® it is also technically impossible - a clear advantage.

idgard® can also be tested free of charge for 14 days without risk.
