Secure access through Zero Trust SD-WAN

Share post

A leading cloud security provider has announced a new Zero Trust SASE solution built on Zero Trust SD-WAN. It connects all branches with each other and secures data traffic.

The industry's first single-vendor SASE solution is powered by Zscaler Zero Trust AI and helps organizations reduce costs and complexity while implementing zero trust security for users, devices and workloads. In addition, Zscaler announces the availability of the Zero Trust SD-WAN solution and its plug-and-play appliances. This solution enables customers to provide secure connectivity for branches, factories and data centers while eliminating the need for inefficient firewalls and VPNs.

Secured device and data traffic in all edge locations

Zscaler's new solutions are based on a Zero Trust architecture in which company policies determine access by users and devices. Outdated network and firewall architectures introduce risk and complexity and enable lateral threat movement, which is often exploited by ransomware attacks. Zero Trust SD-WAN provides secure inbound and outbound connectivity while reducing business risk and network complexity.

By connecting users, locations and applications via the Zero Trust Exchange™ platform, not only the workforce but also device and server data traffic in branches, warehouses and factories are secured through Zero Trust. In addition, Zscaler uses its adaptive AI engine to continuously assess the risk to users, devices, destinations and content. It does this by combining telemetry data from 500 trillion signals per day with third-party risk information.

Zero Trust SD-WAN provides secure connectivity over a single SASE platform

“Users and companies want a coffee shop-like user experience for their hybrid work,” explains Naresh Kumar, VP of product management at Zscaler. “Employees expect the same seamless and secure access as in the office, whether they are working from home or on the go. They want to access their applications without having to put up with a slow and cumbersome VPN. Zscaler Zero Trust SD-WAN connects and secures users, devices, locations and workloads over a single SASE platform without the cyber risks of traditional SD-WAN.”

For this new approach, Zscaler combines its AI-powered SSE platform and the new Zero Trust SD-WAN solution, bringing all of a company's locations and remote users under the unified protection umbrella of Zero Trust SASE. Zero Trust SD-WAN secures inbound and outbound connectivity in one device without complex overlay routing, additional firewalls, or separate site and user policies.

“We continue to see strong interest and adoption of SASE among enterprises. “This comes with the goal of simplifying, consolidating and reducing costs,” says Christopher Rodriguez, Research Director for Security & Trust at IDC. “Building on a strong Zero Trust background, Zscaler has combined its SSE platform with a Zero Trust SD-WAN offering. This solution can support companies on their SASE journey.”

Less costs, less complexity with Zero Trust SD-WAN

With Zscaler, companies can connect their users and devices to apps via a proxy and benefit from integrated, AI-powered functions to protect against cyber threats and data. The platform includes FWaaS, SWG, CASB and DLP and eliminates the need for individual products. This reduces costs and complexity and simplifies management for IT teams. IT teams can enforce granular routing policies for Internet, SaaS and private applications, gain centralized visibility and management, and access AI-powered IoT device discovery and classification with the Zero Trust SD-WAN solution. This improves the security posture for users while eliminating the need for additional firewalls and edge routers in branch offices.

Zscaler's Zero Trust SD-WAN solution provides the following functionality:

  • Plug and Play Appliances: In addition to the already available virtual appliance, plug-and-play appliances offer zero touch provisioning and built-in gateway capabilities to eliminate the need for additional routers or firewalls in branch offices.
  • Integrated SSE: Zero Trust AI cyber threat and data protection capabilities, including integrated FWaaS, SWG, CASB and DLP services
  • Centralized management: Cloud-based management console with integrated policy management across users, locations and clouds.
