A provider of security keys for hardware authentication, announces the initial availability of FIDO Pre-reg, an industry-first feature that enables organizations to securely and seamlessly passwordless onboarding and account recovery/reset at scale.

Available exclusively as part of the YubiEnterprise Subscription, FIDO Pre-reg simplifies enterprise adoption of modern, phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication (MFA) with a smooth and easy user experience.

“Enterprises have been challenged to quickly and at scale drive user adoption of phishing-resistant MFA and FIDO keying solutions like YubiKeys,” said Jeff Wallace, senior vice president, Product at Yubico. “Typically, administrators manually register YubiKeys on behalf of each employee before giving them the key at the office or sending it to the employee's location. FIDO Pre-reg eliminates these challenges and provides a quick and easy way to roll out phishing resistance across the organization from day one with turnkey YubiKey activation – all while reducing IT costs.”

With FIDO Pre-reg, employees can enjoy secure, passwordless access to their online accounts with a phishing-resistant FIDO2/Passkey credential in minutes by simply logging in to a web application or IdP
Navigate and enter a PIN provided by the IT department.

Features of FIDO Pre-reg

  • Accelerated rollout of phishing-resistant MFA with new, out-of-the-box FIDO authentication from day one, allowing employees to seamlessly start using the most secure form of passkey authentication while reducing the burden on IT departments and their users.
  • Eliminates manual user registration, as users can now receive YubiKeys pre-registered with the company's identity provider (IdP).
  • Secure, passwordless access to online accounts in just a few minutes. Simply use the YubiKey and enter the PIN to successfully authenticate with a phishing-resistant FIDO2/Passkey credential without ever needing a password.
  • Exclusively available via YubiEnterprise Subscription, which provides greater business flexibility and agility and lowers entry costs with a YubiKeys-as-a-Service model.
  • YubiKey 5 NFC and YubiKey 5C NFC will be the first keys to support FIDO Pre-reg and will be available through YubiEnterprise Subscription as part of Limited Early Access. All YubiKeys will be generally available in mid-2024.
  • Account recovery with “always on” phishing protection. With a wearable authenticator that works across devices and platforms, users can quickly set up new phones/computers as trusted devices when accessing their online accounts.
