MobileIron Threat Defense expands to detect and remediate multi-vector threats. The solution thus protects iOS and Android devices from phishing attacks at the device, network and application level.

MobileIron, the mobile-centric security platform for the Everywhere Enterprise, extends MobileIron Threat Defense (MTD) with mobile multi-vector phishing protection for iOS and Android devices. How MobileIron is helping companies ward off one of the greatest cyber security threats. With the extension, MTD offers a device- and cloud-based phishing URL database query that detects and corrects phishing attacks across all mobile threat vectors. MTD does this, for example, in text and SMS messages, instant messages as well as on social media and other communication channels that go beyond pure company e-mails.

Verizon report shows the attack areas

The Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report 2020 Von found that credential theft and social engineering scams like phishing are the cause of the majority of data breaches. Almost a quarter (22%) of these scams were phishing. Credentials were stolen most frequently, although many other types of data were also targeted.

"Phishing is a simple but particularly lucrative method for hackers," said Brian Foster, SVP Product Management at MobileIron. “One click of a malicious link is all it takes to compromise a user's ID and password and gain access to valuable data In the era of COVID-19, more employees than ever are accessing corporate data remotely. As a result, hackers are increasingly targeting mobile devices and applications to exploit enterprise vulnerabilities.

Mobile phishing is too often successful

It is extremely difficult to verify the authenticity of links on mobile devices, which is why mobile phishing attacks are often successful. Mobile user interfaces often do not give users full access to crucial information, but at the same time they have to make decisions quickly. That's why organizations urgently need a mobile threat defense solution that detects and remediates phishing attacks across all threat vectors, not just email. At the same time, the solution must not slow down the productivity of the employees".

MTD relies on Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) from MobileIron and offers instant phishing protection right on the device. For devices on which the MobileIron UEM client is already installed, no further user actions are required to provide MTD. Instead, this is done remotely by the IT departments. This ensures complete user acceptance and does not slow down employee productivity. MobileIron is the only solution on the market that automatically protects against mobile threats without user intervention. This is critical because when security measures get in the way of productivity, users can always find a way to bypass them.

Anti-phishing measures need to be stepped up

"Organizations urgently need to step up their anti-phishing efforts without slowing down user productivity," said Phil Hochmuth, program vice president, Enterprise Mobility, IDC. “Phishing attacks are at an all-time high. Hackers use people's fears and send messages about the coronavirus to fool victims. On the one hand, companies should conduct the mandatory security awareness training. On the other hand, they should also enroll their employees' devices on a UEM platform and implement mobile anti-threat capabilities to effectively protect against mobile phishing attacks. User experience should be a crucial factor when evaluating mobile security solutions as it is critical to success.”

As the recent MobileIron Trouble at the Top study showed, executives often feel constrained by security protocols. As a result, they often ask to bypass security requirements, even though they are highly affected by cyberattacks, such as phishing attacks. The study also found that 60% of IT decision makers rank phishing as the top mobile security threat their organization faces. With MTD, companies get seamless and continuous on-device phishing protection for their employees on the device - even on devices without an internet connection.

Multi-vector phishing protection

Organizations can choose to add cloud-based phishing URL database search to MTD's multi-vector phishing protection to better maintain the balance between user security and privacy. With MTD you can also increase general security and meet legal requirements more easily.

With an additional MobileIron zero sign-on For secure and passwordless authentication in cloud services, companies can secure their digital workplaces even better and further reduce the risk of security breaches. Passwords are the number one target for phishing attacks. Once biometric authentication takes place, businesses prevent the dangers associated with stolen passwords.

MobileIron's layered phishing protection is now available for iOS devices and will soon be available on Android devices as well.
