Mobile security with app anomaly detection

Otherwise harmless apps can suddenly be compromised after the update, as can newly installed apps. Bitdefender has integrated a new app anomaly detection function into its Mobile Security for Android, which immediately reports malfunctions even from otherwise trustworthy apps.

Bitdefender introduces a new App Anomaly Detection feature: the industry's first real-time, behavior-based protection layer against anomalous app behavior. It is now part of Bitdefender Mobile Security for Android and continuously detects anomalous and malicious behavior in Android applications as soon as they occur.

Abnormal behavior is registered

Bitdefender App Anomaly Detection provides an additional layer of protection as a novel technology built into Bitdefender Malware Scanner. It continuously monitors and detects any malicious behavior and alerts the user if it detects anything suspicious. Bitdefender App Anomaly Detection is designed to protect Android mobile users' information, financial services and credentials and identities from fake or malicious applications. In addition, it protects users from known and unknown (zero-day) attacks that can lead to financial losses, user account takeovers and thus identity fraud.

Other Android anti-malware solutions currently on the market use signature-based detection that cybercriminals can bypass: hackers design their mobile applications to either only behave maliciously when certain conditions are met, or only days or weeks after the first download.

ML learning models and real-time behavioral scans

Bitdefender App Anomaly Detection uses a combination of machine learning models, real-time behavioral scanning, reputation systems and other data points. Based on this, it immediately recognizes the moment when an application changes its behavior from benign to malicious. In this way, the new function protects users if they have unknowingly installed a dangerous app that remains idle for a certain period of time. On the other hand, when an apparently trustworthy app gives up its old functionality and becomes malicious. Bitdefender App Anomaly Detection only has a minimal impact on battery life.
