ProSoft introduces the Metadefender Anti-Malware Multiscanner from OPSWAT. The tool delivers a 99,9 percent detection rate through 35 anti-virus scanners running in parallel - also available as a kiosk system data lock.

The increasing digitization of work processes in federal and state authorities, municipal administrations, public utilities, branches of industry and critical infrastructures also increases the risk of cyber attacks. Since attackers smuggle ever more intelligent and refined algorithms into company networks every year, highly intelligent anti-malware defense is also required in order not to suffer damage worth millions. The IT security specialist ProSoft and its partner OPSWAT offer the solution to these challenges: the anti-malware multiscanner MetaDefender. The intelligent tool can scan files with at least 8 and a maximum of 35 AV engines from different manufacturers at the same time and guarantee the highest level of security against external attacks.

Multiple anti-malware scanner engines

“The MetaDefender from OPSWAT offers several anti-malware scanner engines in one solution and enables a check of the data traffic even in distributed locations, on mobile storage devices, during file uploads and e-mails. No manufacturer on the IT security market currently offers more security, ”says Robert Korherr, Managing Director of ProSoft GmbH.

OPSWAT produces a suite of solutions, the common core application of which is the anti-malware multiscanner MetaDefender. This bundles several anti-virus or anti-malware scanners in parallel in one solution and enables high-level anti-malware protection. Tools for malware detection from different international regions, such as the US as well as European, are used for this purpose. In this way, new threats that initially appear regionally can be identified as quickly as possible.

Central interface and license management

Despite the use of several AV engines, MetaDefender Core remains the only solution that the user has to install - on-premise or as a cloud variant. The administration takes place via a uniform, central surface, which drastically reduces the effort for the administration as well as the maintenance of software licenses. Because the individual virus scanners do not have to be licensed separately and individually, but are already included in the all-in price of MetaDefender Core.

Integration of external solutions and offline mode

Scans are carried out on the basis of signatures and heuristics. Existing anti-malware solutions can also usually be integrated as custom engines. This significantly improves malware detection rates and protection against malware attacks on Windows, MAC, Linux, Android and iOS operating systems. MetaDefender can also be used in offline environments. Virus definition updates are thus kept up-to-date even in securely isolated environments with little or no network connectivity.

Extensive additional modules

In addition, the tool has numerous additional modules such as the removable data lock / data lock, file disinfection (Deep CDR (Content Disarm and Reconstruct)), ICAP server integration, email gateway security, Proactive DLP, MetaDefender Drive and MetaDefender Vault, creating a central defense in depth is guaranteed against malicious code and other attack vectors.

MetaDefender kiosk data lock

In addition, ProSoft offers the MetaDefender as a data lock or removable data lock kiosk system. This monitors and protects the physical data exchange between the outside world and secure or isolated (air-gapped) networks. Before entering a critical infrastructure, the data lock scans mobile data carriers for threats and malware, deletes critical files or embedded objects such as scripts and macros, and saves the cleaned files in a tamper-proof manner. The data lock is installed on standard x64 hardware from Windows 7 and is compatible with kiosk systems from leading manufacturers.

Use by authorities and KRITIS

“The MetaDefender is already in use by over 1.000 customers worldwide, including since 2016 at the technology group Rhode & Schwarz. In the DACH area, this is mainly successfully established at power plants, industrial companies, state and federal authorities as well as armaments companies. Low maintenance costs, stability and high performance with at the same time greatly increased IT security are still the positive feedback from the institutions today. This is also reflected in higher renewal values and more upselling inquiries from customers, ”says the managing director.
