NETSCOUT announces a new solution for smarter and automated DDoS attack mitigation. An innovative approach uses global visibility and AI analytics to quickly respond to DDoS attacks and reduce operational overhead.

NETSCOUT, a leading provider of cyber security, service assurance and business analytics solutions, announces the launch of a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) based solution. This allows customers to automatically and instantly block most DDoS attacks, simplifying operations and minimizing risk to their business.

ATLAS network with DDoS monitor

The solution leverages NETSCOUT's ATLAS network, an unmatched source of visibility into DDOS attack activity across the Internet. Multiple ATLAS datasets are analyzed, curated and correlated with AI. This automated, intelligent pipeline is being developed with the expertise of NETSCOUT's ATLAS Security Engineering and Response Team (ASERT). This identifies bots and other network infrastructure actively involved in DDoS attacks.

This information is continuously updated and shared in real-time via the Omnis ATLAS Intelligence Feed (AIF) to the industry-leading Arbor Threat Mitigation System (TMS) and Omnis AED Smart DDoS Attack Protection solutions. This new Omnis AIF content allows TMS and AED to know in advance the IP addresses of devices on the internet used for DDoS attacks. This allows up to 90% of attack traffic to be blocked immediately during an attack without further analysis.

Detect botnet-generated DDoS attacks

This data provides the TMS and AED with the intelligence to automatically stop botnet-generated DDoS attacks, including reflection/amplification, direct-path TCP state-exhaustion, application-layer, and encrypted attacks. The analysis behind Omnis AIF is based on NETSCOUT's unique, global DDoS research covering more than a third of all Internet traffic and millions of DDoS attacks. These global insights can then be automatically applied to local protection.

Omnis AIF, which includes the new DDoS Reputation Feed, takes an insights-based approach that provides customers with faster, more comprehensive, and automated solutions. "Our approach differs from others because we use global observations of DDoS attacks to drive automation and on-site mitigation," said Darren Anstee, Chief Technology Officer for Security at NETSCOUT. Drastically reduce attacks for our customers.” With this approach, customers experience less business impact from legitimate blocked traffic and spend less time analyzing DDoS attacks.
