Commvault, a leading provider of data and information management in cloud and on-premises environments, has introduced its data security service Metallic ThreatWise with threat detection and zero-loss strategy. The solution provides technologies for early detection of even unknown cyber threats, even before they reach their target and affect business operations.
According to a survey conducted by the Enterprise Strategy Group, only 12 percent of IT leaders surveyed felt confident they had the right tools and protection required anywhere, to protect data both in the on-premises data center and in the cloud .
Early warning function for data security
With ThreatWise, Commvault bolsters the data security of its Intelligent Data Services with an early warning capability not currently offered by any other vendor in this space. To detect and track down threats before attackers can reach their target, deception capabilities are used to trick perpetrators into targeting fake resources. Additionally, the ThreatWise approach proactively detects threats in production environments, empowering organizations with tools to protect data from ransomware attacks. At the same time, Commvault is expanding its machine learning and critical threat detection capabilities and strengthening the security of its expanded platform, available today.
“When we surveyed IT leaders who have a direct impact on their organization's data security strategies, we got insightful results. Clearly, many IT teams do not have adequate tools to detect ransomware attacks on production environments early enough in the course of an attack to neutralize quiet cyberattacks before they cause damage,” says Jon Oltsik , Senior Principal Analyst and Fellow, Enterprise Strategy Group. “Ransomware has long been the focus of attention for encryption, but newer extortion techniques like exfiltration go further than rapid malware proliferation. And data recovery alone is of no help when sensitive data leaks onto the dark web.”
Metallic SaaS portfolio
“Data recovery is still important, but it is no longer enough on its own. An attacker left undetected in an organization's systems for a few hours can have catastrophic consequences,” said Ranga Rajagopalan, senior vice president, products at Commvault. "By integrating ThreatWise into the Metallic SaaS portfolio, we offer our customers a proactive early warning system that supports their zero-loss strategy by intercepting a threat before it impacts the business."
