With the help of the Absolute Secure Web Gateway Service, an add-on module that fits tightly into Absolute Secure Access's extensive policies, employees are protected while browsing at mobile, remote and hybrid work. The solution inspects, cleans, and effectively inoculates web content in a cloud container before securely forwarding it to the end user's web browser.

Organizations of all sizes struggle with today's dynamic threat landscape. Cyber attackers are now using all manner of Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs), from brute force phishing methods to sophisticated, automated attacks employing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). And attacks targeting mobile users are on the rise, largely because 55 percent of Internet traffic now comes from mobile devices. With this in mind, Absolute Software introduces the first mobile solution for Secure Service Edge.

Many dangers in mobile working and browsing

Other research results are just as sobering:

  • 48 percent of all malware consists of advertising (adware), which works like a can opener and paves the way for harmful malware on smartphones;
  • 47 percent of malware infections originate from Android devices and
  • 76 percent is the rate of increase in 5G connections in 2022 alone, which is already at 1 billion.

With the increase in mobile device usage, web browsing has also become a major contributor to workplace productivity. Whether at a desk in the office or servicing an airplane on the ground, access to applications and resources is critical to moving projects forward or getting a jet off safely.

A single click can lead to an attack

An essential part of the functionality of browsers consists of downloading and executing web code written by unknown developers. If a user is not very careful, a single accidental click can allow external attackers to penetrate an organization's IT and spread further from there. Traditionally, workers in the office and in hybrid work environments had access to tools and solutions that protected them from a hostile threat landscape. But mobile workers were typically left to their own devices.

Safe browsing experiences for everyone

Absolute Software is now launching the Absolute Secure Web Gateway Service (powered by Ericom). This is an add-on module that fits tightly into the extensive Absolute Secure Access policies, strengthening an organization's security posture. At the same time, a natural browsing experience is maintained for mobile, remote and hybrid workers who do not need a fixed desk. The solution inspects, cleans, and effectively inoculates web content in a cloud container before securely forwarding it to the end user's web browser. As a result, mobile employees, field workers and employees without a fixed desk are now just as protected as their colleagues in the office.

Mobile Secure Service Edge for employees

Absolute's Secure Web Gateway Service provides businesses with cloud-based security and protection through antivirus scanning, remote browser isolation, content deactivation and reconstruction, and data loss prevention. This gives IT teams and security professionals features such as:

  • Scanning to look for malware such as worms, trojans and spyware.
  • Blocking malware (including zero-day threats) on risky websites from reaching endpoints, enabling a zero-trust approach to web browsing.
  • Examining the content of file downloads and, if necessary, mitigating and reconstructing them: This provides protection against zero-day threats that are otherwise not detected by anti-virus scans.
  • Prevent accidental upload of sensitive information to ensure compliance, protect intellectual property, and reduce overall risk.
