Firewall as a Service

Configuration errors in the cloud are dangerous. This applies all the more when security solutions such as firewalls are affected. With a managed "Firewall-as-a-Service" many problems can be avoided from the outset.

Attacks on cloud environments are becoming more frequent and more sophisticated, as evidenced by Aqua Security's latest Cloud Native Threat Report. Even small configuration errors can open the door to attackers. It is not for nothing that the Cloud Security Alliance ranks misconfigurations among the top 3 risks in cloud computing.

In order to minimize errors during installation and commissioning, close coordination between the cloud provider and the manufacturer is of great importance. The German cloud provider IONOS, for example, cooperates with the security specialist WatchGuard and has integrated its firewall "FireboxV" into the solution concept of its cloud hosting platform.

Users can start the firewall with just a few mouse clicks and thus specifically protect business-critical applications or data in the cloud with a second security level. Specific security guidelines can be used to assign different rights for different areas, for example to specifically block certain ports or protocols. Extensive monitoring and reporting functions make it possible to keep an eye on all security-relevant events and to provide users with information about the security status of their cloud resources at any time.

Fully automatic protection against errors

It is even easier and safer to install the firewall fully automatically using managed services, such as those offered by the value added distributor ADN to its partners. The partner receives a fixed IP address and can start configuring the firewall immediately. ADN ensures that all relevant firmware updates and hotfixes are installed promptly and takes care of the backup and case management for the manufacturer. The partner can intervene at any time and, for example, create or change firewall rules. Depending on the available resources and knowledge, however, the entire management can also be transferred to the VAD as Managed-as-a-Service. ADN then takes complete responsibility for all of the customer's firewall installations, both in the cloud and on-premises, ensuring secure connectivity and managing the rules. In this way, incorrect configurations are largely ruled out.
