According to Spiegel.de, there was a cyber attack on a supplier of gas stations in Germany. There, hackers have probably paralyzed the systems of a large German fuel supplier. As a result, no tank trucks can be loaded at the moment. Mineral oil company Shell is also likely to be affected by the attack.
According to the Spiegel website, the tank logistics company Oiltanking was the victim of a cyber attack. The company probably confirmed this to the “Handelsblatt” on Monday. Apparently the mineral oil dealer Mabanaft was affected by the attack, as is Oiltanking, a subsidiary of the Hamburg group Marquard & Bahls.
Gasoline supplier works with contingency plans
According to the report, the company writes in a message to its business partners: "We are working to solve the problem according to our emergency plans." Specialists are looking for the cause. Among other things, the loading and unloading of the tank farms is affected, the newspaper continues. Since this is essentially automated and only possible to a limited extent manually, the tanker trucks cannot be loaded at the moment.
13 tank farms in Germany affected
According to the company Oiltanking, it operates a total of 13 tank farms in Germany. Most customers are probably medium-sized companies, but also the large corporation Shell. When asked by the “Handelsblatt” at Shell how strong the effects on Germany will be: “Possible effects on our supply chains can be offset at the moment using alternative charging points.”
