According to a survey, 18 percent of cybersecurity incidents are due to a lack of cybersecurity budget. The manufacturing sector is the most frequently affected by incidents in Europe.
Eight out of ten companies in Germany have suffered at least one cybersecurity incident in the past two years. The current Kaspersky study shows that a not insignificant part (18 percent) of this can be attributed to a lack of investment in cybersecurity.
The majority (79 percent) of those surveyed in Germany believe that their current budget is sufficient to keep up with new cyber threats or to stay ahead of them. On the other hand, 21 percent also say that their budget is not enough for this; 20 percent even lack the means to protect their company's infrastructure from cyber attacks.
Europe Comparison: Cybersecurity Incidents in the Manufacturing Industry
A European comparison shows that around one in seven IT security experts in companies in Europe (14 percent) have suffered cybersecurity incidents in the past two years due to a lack of investment in cybersecurity. The industry in Europe with the most cybersecurity incidents due to lack of finance is manufacturing. The areas of critical infrastructure and the oil and gas industry are also severely affected by IT security budget restrictions. Follow behind:
- Manufacturing industry (22 percent)
- Critical infrastructure (19 percent)
- Oil and gas industry (19 percent)
- Information technology (14 percent)
- Retail (11 percent)
- Financial services
- ments (10 percent)
- Telecommunications (7 percent) Transport & Logistics (4 percent).
Future investments primarily in education and training
Companies want to take further measures to strengthen their cybersecurity and invest accordingly. Respondents in Germany would like to invest in the following areas in the next 12 to 18 months:
- threat detection software (41 percent);
- Introduction of SaaS cloud solutions (39 percent);
- training for cybersecurity professionals (34 percent);
- training for employees in general (32 percent);
- Implementation of an endpoint protection solution (30 percent).
Kaspersky is therefore committed to developing the SASE portfolio as well as XDR and MDR with integrated AI, machine learning, automated detection and response, automated threat investigation or out-of-the-box integrations. Ivan Vassanov adds: “With our solutions, we provide CISOs with, among other things, C-level dashboards and reports that contain information about how many incidents we have prevented, how quickly incidents were investigated and how effective the cybersecurity solutions used are.
In this way, we ensure process transparency and can demonstrate the value of our solutions. We also highlight customer-specific risks and industry-specific trends. This allows them to focus their defenses on current threats and justify investments in the necessary technology.”
