Bitglass receives basic patent for cloud access control. New SAML relay enables transparent real-time controls of cloud services.

The cloud security provider Bitglass has received a patent for its fundamental invention of a SAML relay for transparent real-time access control of cloud services (US Patent No. 10.757.090). Since the patent application was filed in 2015, numerous leading cloud security providers have implemented the technology.

With the SAML relay, a security broker or proxy - also known as a Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) - can be transparently integrated into the traffic between users and cloud services during the registration process. After the user logs in, the CASB checks their risk profile and determines the access level that is approved for the user. The CASB can grant direct access to the application, access with proxy and controlled access to the application with data protection and threat protection or deny access entirely.

Many companies need a cloud-based solution

Bitglass CTO Anurag Kahol said: “Since Bitglass was founded, we have known that many companies need a cloud-based solution that allows secure application access from any device, whether it is a business or personal device acts. Our SAML relay technology has meanwhile become the standard for supporting secure, location-independent access. "

"This patent reaffirms that Bitglass is the architect of the SAML relay and reverse proxy technology that all CASB vendors have mimicked," commented Nat Kausik, Bitglass CEO. “For companies that need transparent cloud security, the Bitglass-CASB remains the solution of choice. Today this is a core component of our SASE offering, together with our SmartEdge Secure Web Gateway and our Zero Trust Network Access. "
