ALPHV publishes data from Ziegler firefighting vehicles

At the beginning of January, the well-known manufacturer of fire-fighting vehicles Ziegler was probably successfully attacked by the hacker group ALPHV. Nothing more can be seen or heard of the attack on Ziegler's website. However, since the ransom was apparently not paid, ALPHV rages against Ziegler on its leak page and publishes documents that are said to belong to the company.

On January 10th, the message on the homepage of the fire engine manufacturer Ziegler reads “On Thursday, February 09.02th. ZIEGLER became the victim of a cyber attack. The attack was detected around 08:00 in the morning.” From that day on, the company was only available to a limited extent. But after about 4 weeks, the company slowly got back to business as usual and the systems were working again. There is no further information about the attack.

ALPHV angry because no payment was made

Now, more than 3 months after the attack on Ziegler, the APT group is raging against Ziegler on its leak page, since the company is probably one of the smart victims of the attack, which does not immediately finance the next attack on itself and others. As an act of revenge, the ALPHV Group writes that Ziegler's IT systems are considered insecure and wants to warn customers. But the text sounds more like a small child who didn't get ice cream. The screenshots and a list of files that are said to be stolen data from the company don't look quite as funny. Only the company itself can assess whether these are genuine and, if so, whether they contain trade secrets. Closer inspection or analysis of the images and data is illegal.

Exemplary: don't pay!

More and more companies under attack are investing their money better in restoring and expanding their IT and cyber security. That's a good thing, because every euro or bitcoin paid only finances further attacks. If in doubt, even on your own company. In this case, the Ziegler company acted in an exemplary manner. After the attack and a lot of work, the company will also overcome the last hurdle.
