Prevent malicious software from starting

A cyber protection provider has added a new feature to its security platform. It improves cybersecurity by preventing malicious or unwanted applications from launching on end devices.

Malwarebytes, a global leader in real-time cyber protection, is launching Application Block, a new, free feature for users of its ThreatDown platform. The feature creates an additional layer of security that prevents unwanted or malicious applications from launching on the protected end devices.

Less attack surface – more endpoint security

In this way, the attack surface of the devices is reduced and IT teams that are often already busy are relieved. The feature is easily managed through the ThreatDown console - allowing administrators to seamlessly protect their corporate IT, increase employee productivity, and meet compliance requirements without the need for additional staff or training.

Malicious applications are increasingly hidden

Malicious software comes in various forms and, when executed, can cause great harm to a business. However, it is often difficult for employees to identify which applications are safe. In addition, cybercriminals are increasingly hiding malware in legitimate applications to deceive users. Accordingly, it is becoming increasingly important for IT teams to be able to quickly and effectively block unwanted or malicious applications to ensure a solid cybersecurity infrastructure for the company.

“Cybercriminals today are smart: They use legitimate software as a vehicle for malware,” says Marcin Kleczynski, founder and CEO of Malwarebytes. “By making Application Block available free of charge, we are providing our users with another important preventive measure to strengthen their cybersecurity and mitigate the threat landscape for their business.”

How does ThreatDown Application Block work?

ThreatDown Application Block protects endpoints from attackers by blocking the launch of unauthorized, unwanted or malicious applications. IT teams can block individual applications, including productivity-draining ones that are unrelated to the company's day-to-day operations, better aligning the applications actually used with the applications the business wants. ThreatDown Application Block offers, among other things:

  • Improved application security: Threats of malware hiding in third-party applications are effectively reduced.
  • Improved employee productivity: Applications that do not add value to everyday business and reduce productivity can also be blocked.
  • Improved compliance: The risk of incurring fines and other negative consequences due to non-compliance with data protection and other compliance regulations is effectively reduced.
  • More efficient reporting: The integrated console dashboard simplifies the creation and management of alerts and reports.
