“Ethical hackers” hack into corporate networks to identify security holes before attackers find them. This can be learned in a course.
Cyber specialists are in short supply. Current studies assume a need for more than 100.000 security employees in companies and authorities - in Germany alone (Cybersecurity Workforce Study; (ISC)2 Research). They are urgently needed to build a resilient security structure for the business location.
Hacking as a course offering
However, cyber specialists also have excellent prospects on the job market. One of the more unusual areas of activity in these future professions is “offensive cybersecurity” (OffSec). Here you will find ethical hackers and penetration testers who scrutinize the company's IT security. Your job is to break into a company and identify vulnerabilities before a cyber attacker gets there.
But hacking also needs to be learned. The Cisco Networking Academy is therefore offering a new course specifically for ethical hackers. The goal: to train the ability to empathize with the thought patterns, tactics and strategies of criminal attackers. Skills that are also essential for defensive defense. Anyone can complete the 70-hour course free of charge and at their own time.
“Ransomware gangs strike worldwide on average every eleven seconds. German companies will only be able to create resilient cybersecurity for themselves and their sales chains if they manage to train enough security specialists,” says Dr. Michael von der Horst, Managing Director Cybersecurity at Cisco Germany (Source: Who's Who In Ransomware: 2023 Report; Conceal.io). “Cyber protection has grown into a task with implications for society as a whole. The IT industry in particular is required to offer training and further education in order to quickly close the gap in the supply of security experts. We want to make a contribution here with the free Cisco Networking Academy offering.”
Cisco Networking Academy
Cisco has had a global educational partnership with the project name Networking Academy for 25 years. Over 1300 teachers at more than 700 vocational schools, universities and adult education in Germany use the free online platform with learning material on networks, cybersecurity, collaboration, programming and digital production. The main area of application is IT training and computer science courses. New, low-threshold course offerings with short modules also enable the use of basic digital skills in general education and vocational non-IT courses. In the 2022/2023 teaching year, 70.000 participants in Germany qualified with the online courses.
