Sophisticated and targeted cyber attacks are becoming a growing threat to organizations of all sizes. They face the challenge of comprehensively securing their own IT landscape - despite a lack of resources and expertise. Christian Milde, Managing Director Central Europe at Kaspersky, explains in an interview with B2B Cyber Security how companies can use a Managed detection and response solution can still protect comprehensively.

B2B Cyber Security in an interview with Christian Milde, Managing Director Central Europe at Kaspersky

B2BCS: What is the current situation in Germany with regard to security experts?

Christian Milde: “The need for skilled workers in Germany – as in other European countries – is increasing in all sectors; Several thousand experts are needed in the security area alone. Small and large companies are equally affected by this. We are also already seeing a tendency for companies with a lack of resources to outsource their cyber security department to a service provider in order to be comprehensively protected despite a shortage of skilled workers - and that is a good decision! Because our studies showthat companies that rely on external experts are better protected. They face almost XNUMX percent fewer cyber incidents than organizations that work entirely or mostly with internal resources.”

B2BCS: What challenges does the increasing need for skilled workers pose for companies?

Christian Milde: “More than half of decision makers in Germany would like to be more proactive and increase cybersecurity measures, but don't know how. In addition, many are struggling to get the funding they need to improve their cybersecurity.

Furthermore, half would like to involve external security experts but do not have the necessary resources to find a trusted partner. A lack of resources therefore presents companies with a multitude of challenges. They must withstand cyberattacks with little or no specialized staff. This can lead to the loss of data and money, in the worst case even to production downtime, recovery costs, loss of revenue and/or loss of reputation for the company.”

B2BCS: What solutions do you see?

Christian Milde: “If companies – regardless of size, by the way – lack the in-house expertise, they should look to automated and managed cybersecurity in the form of a Managed Detection and Response (MDR) solution set. Because today technology, solutions and services in combination with human expertise are required to analyze and evaluate cyber security incidents at the necessary level and to be able to react accordingly.

Fast and adequate detection and reaction to security incidents are crucial today in order to keep the effects as low as possible. At Kaspersky, for example, this includes Expertise, backed by the latest automated threat intelligence powered by more than 20 years of experience in searching, detecting and responding to cyber threats, and a unified framework that makes it all possible. MDR provides visibility into all endpoints in the corporate network and superior countermeasures so routine tasks can be automated to detect, prioritize, investigate and ultimately neutralize advanced threats and APT-like attacks.”

B2BCS: What should be considered when choosing a suitable cyber security service provider?

Christian Milde: “Today and in the future, it is about integrating human know-how into an organization's cyber security and offering decision makers more than just a pure endpoint security approach with data, tools, intelligence and processes – even if the organization lacks resources and knowledge . Companies should therefore consider using external cyber security expertise.

The approach, a single trusted and transparent cyber security partner It pays off to commission someone who can deliver everything from a single source with an open-door policy. In addition to the technical component robust MDR solution therefore, an expert understanding, support from the latest automated threat data and a unified framework that does all the work should also be part of the partner’s repertoire.”
