More and more city administrations in small and large cities are paralyzed and blackmailed by ransomware. Now the Baden-Württemberg city of Burladingen near Tübingen, known for its clothing manufacturer Trigema, is affected. According to the website, the administration has to be completely closed for a week.
The city administration of Burladingen can currently only communicate with the citizens by telephone and website. After the authority was hit by ransomware on 13.07.22/XNUMX/XNUMX, almost a week later the citizens had to be informed that nothing was still working.
Emergency operation only many days later
The first message, dated July 13, 2022, read: "Urgent notice - City administration temporarily only available by phone Message dated July 13, 2022
Dear fellow citizens, unfortunately the city administration has become the target of a cyber attack today. Therefore, we are currently only available to a limited extent (only by phone). Our IT department is working flat out to start up the systems again so that we can be there for you again as quickly as possible. For this reason, it is unfortunately necessary for the town halls in our city area to remain closed for the rest of the week. In urgent cases..... and ask for your understanding. Your City Management Team”
In an update, the administration announced that they wanted to go into emergency operation from July 19, 2022. How extensive this will be and how long the clean-up and restoration work will take has not been announced. However, it can be assumed that the administration of Burladingen will not pay the ransom. One can only hope that the city's IT department has taken better precautions than the administration of the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district. The administration there was paralyzed by ransomware in July 2021 and A year later it is still eliminating the last problems.
