One thing is certain: the global coronavirus pandemic was a godsend for hackers and threat actors. This is what Bitdefender's threat statistics show for the past year. Here are a few key figures.

The latest security findings from Bitdefender Labs suggest that the threat will remain high in the current year.

485 percent increase in ransomware reports worldwide ...

…in comparison to the previous year. Double blackmail is a new tool in the cybercriminal repertoire. In doing so, they increase the pressure on your victims by threatening to publish the stolen data before it is encrypted.

Spammers have improved their tactics ...

… .And proceed even more cunningly. They use relevant technical language, logos and layouts that appear real and convincingly pretend to be real people. In addition, they cover a wide range of topics, from corona spam to banking services or delivery notifications.

More trojans targeting money

Banking Trojans like Dridex, Emotet, Trickbot and AgentTesla were very popular with cyber criminals in 2020. Some specimens focused solely on the targeted collection of personal or financial data; others were used to spread ransomware and other Trojans.

320 percent increase in global reports ...

... on potentially unwanted applications compared to the previous year. While these applications pose no real threat, they are known to degrade device performance.

Targeting Android devices

Bitdefender saw a 2020% increase in reported Android threats in the second half of 32 compared to the second half of 2019.
