The days when there were only a few thousand MacOS attackers are long gone. As of June 2020, the AV-TEST database has recognized over 240.000 MacOS malware variants. The laboratory has tested 14 current products for their protective effect, system load and usability and can report good results.

14 programs tested - 5 for companies

The current test of the 14 products took place in the laboratory from May to June 2020 under the new MacOS Catalina. All products were first tested for their protective effect with new MacOS pests. The laboratory then checked the system load of the respective security products. Finally, the usability was checked, such as false alarms from the software.

Also in the test are 9 products for private users from Avast, AVG, Avira, Bitdefender, Canimaan Software, F-Secure, Kaspersky, NortonLifeLock and Trend Micro. Furthermore, the product solutions for companies from Bitdefender, FireEye, Fortinet, Sophos and Symantec can be found in the test.

Each product can receive a maximum of 6 points in each of the three test sections. This means that the highest possible number of points is 18. For the packages for private users, 7 of the 9 products achieve 18 points. Only Avast and AVG have to be satisfied with 17,5 points.

Test Endpoint Security for MacOS Catalina In the corporate solutions category, Bitdefender, Sophos and Symantec products each receive 18 points. The packages from FireEye and Fortinet follow with a very good 17,5 points.
