TeamViewer increases the security of the remote control app through biometric authentication. The latest version is supplemented by additional functions for mobile use.

TeamViewer, a leading global provider of remote connectivity solutions and technologies for digitizing work processes, today announced new security features and usability improvements for the TeamViewer Remote Control app.

Remote service via mobile device

The app can be used to access computers, tablets, smartphones and other devices from a mobile device. For more security, the application will in future rely on the native biometric face and fingerprint authentication of Apple and Android mobile devices. This can prevent unauthorized access even when the mobile device is unlocked.

In addition, two-factor authentication (2FA) can be used to prevent unauthorized access to the TeamViewer accounts in the future, and incoming connections can be verified using 2FA push notifications. After registering one or more mobile devices, this feature prompts users to accept or decline any new connection via the registered devices.

Biometric plus two-factor authentication

Other new functions include the option to hide the content on the screen of the remotely controlled device for data protection reasons (“black screen” function). All connections are also protected with end-to-end 256-bit AES encryption and other industry-standard security functions.

Contents of the version update

  • Biometric access protection through iOS FaceID / TouchID and the integrated face and fingerprint recognition from Android
  • Improved interaction possibilities during the connections, for example remote restart and better usability of the "black screen" function
  • Redesigned user interface for easier filling of text fields and use of keyboard shortcuts like F5 and Ctrl + Alt
  • Full mouse support for iPads
  • Minor bug fixes and performance improvements

“The ownership and use of smartphones has increased massively over the past 10 years. The safety functions of the devices themselves have also improved steadily, ”says Dr. Mike Eissele, Chief Technology Officer at TeamViewer. “The latest version of the TeamViewer Remote Control App combines the possibility of biometric authentication of the end devices with the extensive security features of our platform. This makes TeamViewer one of the most reliable remote access tools on the market. ”The TeamViewer Remote Control App can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
