Russian hacker gang Killnet: further IT attacks against the USA

Killnet, which attacked many targets in the USA via DDoS, wanted to stop the attacks against the USA a few weeks ago. The aim was to improve the relationship between Russia and the USA. However, the group's statements are probably of little value: the attacks in the context of the Ukraine war continue.

Check Point Software Technologies experts continued to monitor the APT group Killnet. Actually, the group wanted to let the attacks against the United States rest so that Russian-American relations improved. But the attacks continue. A comment by Sergey Shykevich, Threat Intelligence Group Manager at Check Point Software Technologies.

Strong DDoS attacks against the USA

“Over the course of the weekend, we saw the Killnet group announce that they had carried out several successful cyber attacks against the United States. These are: DDoS attack against 8 US airports, flooding the CIA website with requests via the contact form, DDoS attack against a portal of the CISA (Authority for Information Security and Infrastructure), DDoS attack against the US Department of Commerce .

Killnet actually claimed a few weeks ago that it would stop the attacks against the United States so as not to add fuel to the fire and strain relations between the United States and Russia, or to trigger new sanctions. That claim is now invalid. In addition, Killnet let it be known that it would no longer announce its victims on the Telegram news platform, but only the attack itself. A warning is then omitted. The pro-Russian hackers currently say they have already used this tactic against the state of Poland. In any case, we will continue to monitor and report on the activity of the hacker gang.”
