Efforts are being made worldwide to define a legal framework for artificial intelligence. There were hearings before the US Congress, where ChatGPT boss Sam Altman, among others, spoke out in favor of regulation. MEPs are calling for several changes to the "AI Act" to regulate AI more strictly.
You cannot stop the development of AI and the innovation that comes with it. Or as the saying goes: Once the genie is out of the bottle... AI models are new technologies like many others have come before. And yet they are special in many ways. Because AI has the potential to massively change society and our economy - and in a positive way. Previous waves of modernization had comparable effects, e.g. B. the industrial revolution, manufacturing robots, the Internet, etc. The AI arena is full of algorithms that go beyond GPT-4. Large language models (LLM) and generative AI are current hot topics. When the Internet conquered us, we already had fears that it could destroy jobs. However, the triumph of this worldwide network had exactly the opposite effect. And AI will also create a new form of economy with new requirements and opportunities. Jobs will become superfluous in some areas - yes, but many will also be created in new areas.
downside of regulation
It makes sense to have voluntary or mandatory guidelines outlining, among other things, what types of models are used. I think we should also protect copyright and use of images to prevent the use of a person's image and sound without their consent. And there must also be an efficient way to enforce this. Because not everyone will follow the rules. Economic powerhouses and technological leaders such as China and Russia are unlikely to slow down when it comes to AI and could therefore easily overtake other countries in terms of innovation and market leadership. We should think very carefully about giving up our leadership position.

Ultimately, pausing or slowing down certain developments is virtually impossible. In cyber security, for example, it is crucial that states, organizations and companies keep up with the innovations of cybercriminals. Because they will not forego the optimization of their tools and attacks and will use advanced AI. Therefore, in order to protect ourselves, we must use the latest technologies and innovations for security and defense.
