ownCloud introduces "Spaces" for teams and projects

Share post

ownCloud Infinite Scale, the next generation of the file-sharing platform ownCloud, comes with “Spaces”, an innovative solution for long-term group-internal collaboration. It enables organizations to set up standalone file rooms for departments, teams or projects.

These rooms are completely independent of the personal data of the individual users and can be provided with individual properties. For example, you can have several owners with administrative rights, receive fixed storage space quotas and be equipped with your own recycle bin.

In the future, organizations will also have the opportunity to define individual guidelines for their individual spaces. You can then allow or prevent external sharing, specify periods for storing files or create special high-security rooms in which all data is encrypted end-to-end.

Self-service Spaces management

The spaces can be set up and managed by self-service. Organizations can define individual user roles for this. This enables team or project managers to set up file rooms themselves with just a few clicks, add new members or transfer ownership in the event of a change in personnel.

The solution offers organizations numerous added values. The clear separation of the file rooms from the users' personal files reduces the risk of employees accidentally sharing files with unauthorized recipients. Setting up dedicated guidelines allows organizations to implement specifications such as the GDPR or internal policies at team and project level. The self-service procedures for setting up and managing the spaces relieve the IT departments considerably.

Clear separation of the file spaces

Last but not least, Spaces forms an ideal basis for integration into third-party solutions, for example at digital workspaces of teams. For example, by integrating them into chat tools, efficient cross-application collaboration can be implemented. The new file sharing platform ownCloud Infinite Scale is currently available as a tech preview and will be officially presented shortly.
