IT Operations Report: Focus is on IT security

Kaseya's annual IT Operations Report shows that IT professionals are focused on security and integration. Cybersecurity and data protection, inadequate IT budgets and outdated legacy systems top the list of this year's challenges in the eighth benchmark survey.

Kaseya, the leading provider of unified IT management and security software for managed service providers (MSPs) and medium-sized enterprises (MMEs), today released its 2022 IT Operations Report, which polled nearly 2.000 IT professionals worldwide on their top priorities over the past year and challenges were surveyed.

2.000 IT professionals surveyed

Key findings from this year's benchmark survey include (% breakdown):

The three most important points for IT professionals are

  • the improvement of IT security overall (52%),
  • increasing IT productivity through automation (33%) and
  • migrating to the cloud (32%)

The three biggest challenges are

  • cyber security and data protection (49%),
  • insufficient IT budgets and resources to meet requirements (29%) and
  • Legacy systems impeding growth and innovation (21%).

Furthermore, 54% of those questioned stated that they strongly support integration – last year it was 48%. Most respondents felt that integrating all of their solutions is the best approach. When asked which solutions would benefit most from integration, access to IT documentation, the ability to run automation scripts, and ticket management were cited as the top three.

Safety is a primary concern

Unsurprisingly, security remains a top concern: 53% of IT professionals surveyed said they expect to increase security staff this year - a 7% increase from last year. Another notable finding is that remote workforce management, which was the third most important expense over the past year, has fallen three places: only 22% of respondents still consider it an important factor.

"As we anticipated, cybersecurity and data protection continues to be the number one challenge facing IT professionals," said Mike Puglia, Kaseya's chief strategy officer. “Our leading all-in-one IT platform was designed to address these needs, as well as the need for more workflow integrations to maximize operational efficiencies. With budgets in mind, we designed the IT Complete solution suite to be cost-effective and scalable, so IT professionals can do more. With inflation soaring and a possible recession, it is more important than ever to provide our customers with affordable solutions. ”

further results

  • IT security budgets will increase. In addition to the expected increase in security staff, 86% of those surveyed assume that their IT security budget will increase or remain the same this year. About a third of respondents cited security incidents and concerns as the top budget drivers.
  • More automation, please. About 33% of respondents ranked increasing IT productivity through automation as one of the top three tasks for organizations. In fact, 48% – almost half – plan to invest in automation technologies by 2023.
  • Say goodbye to legacy systems. Legacy infrastructure is the biggest cost after business growth. 40% of respondents plan to upgrade their technology this year.

What are the key IT functions that companies outsource to MSPS?

  • IT security
  • Cloud infrastructure management
  • Backup management
  • Network Monitoring
  • Helpdesk
  • Endpoint management (desktops, laptops and servers)
