The Klinikum Lippe prominently informs its visitors on its website that it is currently “only available by phone and fax – patient care is ensured”. Another hospital fell victim to a hacker attack. The LKA is already involved.

The Klinikum Lippe is hardly accessible, but at least it can safely care for its patients. As informed by the hospital, the hospital's IT systems fell victim to a hacker attack. However, it is not yet known who the attacker is. It is very likely a ransomware attack and the clinic is expected to pay a ransom.

The clinic informed after hacker attack

The clinic's website reads "In the last few days, the Lippe Clinic experienced a partial failure of the IT systems at all three locations in Detmold, Lemgo and Bad Salzuflen. The cause is a massive external hacker attack, which was noticed by the hospital's surveillance systems and IT and accompanied by defensive measures together with external specialists from the State Criminal Police Office.

To further secure and restore the IT systems, the hospital's entire IT infrastructure was shut down and disconnected from all external networks. In order to avoid further damage, the IT systems of Klinikum Lippe are now being migrated or set up again. Among other things, this means that the Klinikum Lippe will continue to be available from outside only by telephone or fax in the coming days.”

Paper files instead of computer databases

Since the entire IT does not work or only partially works, access to the patient files is also difficult. In some cases, the analog form is used and the files are printed out on a functioning terminal. Officially, only the ordering of meals has been converted to the formerly analogue form.

The incident is reminiscent of 2019: at that time, the Lippe medical care center was the victim. At that time, hackers paralyzed the IT systems, so that the medical practices in Detmold, Lemgo and Lage had to be closed for several days.
