Fortinet introduces cross-cloud SD-WAN solution to simplify and improve multi-cloud applications. Fortinet's Secure SD-WAN for Multi-Cloud enables users to use scalable, cost-effective SD-WAN anywhere

Fortinet, the world's leading provider of comprehensive, integrated and automated cyber security solutions, introduces Fortinet Secure SD-WAN for Multi-Cloud. Secure SD-WAN for Multi-Cloud is a network and security solution that enables users to solve common requirements for performance, transparency, costs and control of applications that occur in multi-cloud implementations across multiple clouds and regions through SD-WAN .

Most companies - around 93 percent according to the latest estimates - now have a multi-cloud strategy and work with several cloud providers. This helps them meet key business needs, including disaster recovery, data protection, application resilience, and global coverage. However, managing and securing various private and public cloud workloads and environments remains challenging as many organizations choose to connect their clouds via the WAN edge of their on-premise data center. Although this traditional WAN infrastructure approach is secure, it prevents all the advantages of the multi-cloud from being exploited. In addition, this approach leads to complex deployment, inconsistent network performance, and high costs.

High-performance connection between public cloud workloads

Fortinet Secure SD-WAN for Multi-Cloud offers a new approach to creating a secure, high-performance connection between public cloud workloads running on multiple clouds - without adding cost or complexity. The solution enables a consistent network architecture using the SD-WAN functionalities between the clouds and enables application developers and corporate IT to set up a fast and seamless cloud-to-cloud network and security architecture. This creates a secure and effective infrastructure that takes full advantage of company-wide multi-cloud strategies and implementations:

  • The provision of a consistent overlay network across different cloud networks is automated. This reduces complexity and increases agility in order to save employees time and resources.
  • End-to-end visibility, control and centralized management. Native cloud integrations standardize the functionality across multiple cloud environments.
  • Secure exchange of application data from cloud to cloud without retransmission through the data center. This enables implementations to be scaled better and reduces latency times.
  • Intelligent selection of connections based on application characteristics through dynamic path selection, improving performance and optimizing costs by selecting the best Internet or leased line connection.
  • Application developer friendly API that enables programmers to present their network and security needs consistently.

Performance advantage on premises and in the cloud

Fortinet offers Secure SD-WAN as an integrated part of its market-leading FortiGate next-generation firewall. It is based on the industry's first SD-WAN application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) and enables a better application experience, higher performance and better cost efficiency - with up to 17 times better security compute ratings compared to competitive solutions.

The solution is provided via the FortiGate-VM virtual appliance. It is based on Fortinet's patented vSPU technology and offers a performance advantage in the cloud, including IPsec performance in excess of 20 gigabits per second (Gbps) - ten times the industry average. This enables fast, encrypted connections via the Internet and dedicated line connections to reduce operating costs.

By using the broad FortiGate-VM product portfolio on all major cloud platforms as well as the market-leading FortiGate appliances on-premises, companies can benefit from cloud-independent, consistent multi-cloud networks without having to compromise on security and performance .

Fortinet Secure SD-WAN for Multi-Cloud securely connects applications and workloads across multiple clouds and complements Fortinet's existing Secure SD-WAN cloud functions to securely connect users and workstations with applications and cloud workloads.

SD-WAN for the entire company

Fortinet offers a secure SD-WAN product portfolio for the complete end-to-end enterprise with physical appliances for large data centers, branch offices, remote offices and home offices as well as virtual appliances for multi-cloud deployments. The ability to scale from home offices to branch offices to the cloud - while all of them are connected to a single operating system via the Fortinet Security Fabric - ensures that network and security policies work seamlessly across multiple environments and cloud platforms. This is made possible by the latest threat intelligence from FortiGuard Labs.

“Companies that deploy applications and workloads across multiple clouds need to be able to manage the connection seamlessly and maintain the security of the various infrastructures. Fortinet Secure SD-WAN solutions offer connectivity and security across various cloud infrastructures. At the same time, they optimize the usability of the applications. We help companies realize the true potential of SD-WAN by making it accessible and deployable anywhere. From home, from company premises to the cloud, from the data center to the cloud and now also across the cloud - Fortinet offers the most scalable, cost-effective and most secure SD-WAN solution in the industry on the market, ”says John Maddison, EVP of products and CMO at Fortinet.
