Cyber attacks are one of the greatest threats to the economy. In the course of this, IronHack took an interest in which countries are particularly attractive for hackers and cyber criminals and carried out the following analysis.
The result shows that, after the United States, Germany is the country most threatened by cyber criminals. A finding that corresponds with the risk assessments of proven experts. The database used
All member states of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (with the exception of Luxembourg, which had to be excluded due to insufficient data) were selected and the following influencing factors were used to rank the countries whose residents, companies and public services are most at risk of cybercrime examined:
Risk assessment: Data for assessing the risk at national level were taken from the VulDB cybercrime risk database.
Spread of security software: Data on the proportion of computers that have functioning security software, such as anti-virus software or the like, was taken from the Microsoft Digital Defense Report 2017.
Computer with malware: Data on the proportion of computers on which malicious programs such as malware or the like were found were taken from the Microsoft Digital Defense Report 2017.
Legislation: Information on whether laws to protect against cybercrime have been installed in the countries examined were taken from UNCTAD.
In order to be able to compare the results of all the countries examined with one another in terms of one influencing factor, the result data was standardized on a point scale from 0 to 100.
