New Data Classification Features: Barracuda Data Inspector automatically scans OneDrive and SharePoint to find sensitive information and malicious files.

With the new Barracuda Data Inspector, the cloud security specialist Barracuda is helping companies to check OneDrive for Business and SharePoint data for sensitive information and malicious files. The Data Inspector takes on this task automatically. Powerful data classification features help identify various types of data such as login information, personal information, credit card information, and more. With the Data Inspector, users can determine where sensitive data is stored and whether it has been shared internally or externally. You can use this information to decide how to proceed.

Sensitive company data is a sought-after target

Companies can also store sensitive data such as credit card or network credentials in OneDrive and SharePoint. This makes these solutions an attractive target for attackers. These services may also be the storage location for dormant malware, viruses and ransomware that the system's own security cannot detect. This means that one wrong click by a user is enough to activate the malware.

With the new Barracuda Data Inspector, IT managers can now easily scan OneDrive and SharePoint to identify sensitive data. They can then decide what to do with this data in terms of compliance and other requirements.

The Barracuda Data Inspector can do that

The core functions of the Barracuda Data Inspector include:

  • Create categories for data classification: Identification of specific types of information, such as employee or student IDs, project code names, and other proprietary information
  • Recognize whether data has been passed on internally or externally
  • Identify stored malware, viruses and ransomware and eliminate them directly at the source
  • Receive automatic notifications and redacted previews of secret data
  • Warning users when they try to save data that could be considered sensitive

"Barracuda Data Inspector is the next generation of data security that makes it easy to identify and protect a company's most important information," said Tim Jefferson, SVP, engineering for data, network and application security at Barracuda Networks.
