Cyber attack: The list of well-known German companies that were victims of an attack has grown: the Osnabrück logistics company Meyer & Meyer with 1.800 employees and a turnover of 200 million. A lot of things have to be done manually at the moment.

Already on December 6th there was a successful cyber attack on the systems of the well-known textile logistics company Meyer & Meyer. The company can still be reached, but various processes had to be converted to good old manual work. Meyer & Meyer openly communicated the attack on its systems, but did not provide any further information on the scope and the exact effects.

Open communication after the attack

According to a company report, the extent of the damage caused by the cyber attack is currently being checked and the system has started to be restored. There is currently no indication whether important systems have been encrypted or whether company or customer data has been stolen. This will probably only be possible after the nature of the malware has been announced. The relevant leak pages of the largest ransomware groups, such as LockBit, Black Basta, AlphV or Karakurt, have so far not shown any entry about the Meyer & Meyer company.

"We reacted quickly and decisively to the targeted attack," says Björn Plantholt, who is responsible for corporate communications at Meyer & Meyer. “Our IT systems have been isolated. Together with a specialized IT partner, we are working flat out to offer our customers the performance they are accustomed to.” The company has immediately informed its employees and business partners about the development and is working closely with the law enforcement and data protection authorities.

Business operations should continue

According to their own statements, Meyer & Meyer was able to maintain part of the business operations after the cyber attack, despite the systems being shut down, by switching to manual processes. Björn Plantholt: “This criminal act affects our business activities. We proceed with the greatest possible care and responsibility in order to solve the challenges in the interest of our employees and business partners. At the same time, we are in close contact with our partners and are grateful for the support that they and numerous companies, especially from the region, are giving us.”

The company Meyer & Meyer is a service provider that focuses on the entire value chain of the textile industry. In this way, fashion companies are supported along all services in this value chain. The company calls this principle “From Sheep to Shop”.
