The G DATA academy is expanding its portfolio with an interactive game on the topics of social engineering traps, ransomware and phishing. With that reacts G DATA on the increasing need for accompanying measures for security awareness training in order to increase the completion rates for e-learning courses.

More and more companies are using security awareness training to arm their staff for phishing attempts or a social engineering trap. However, employees often lack the motivation to complete the courses. An interactive game from the G DATA academy provides the right incentive to learn.

Computer game as awareness training

The computer game is available now and can easily be integrated into the curriculum of the security awareness training. Companies can use the game to start an awareness campaign within the company.

"Modern e-learning courses increasingly rely on good stories and playful elements with the aim of maximizing learning transfer," says Christian Laber, Head of E-Learning Development at G DATA CyberDefense. “The learners have a firm focus on the topic and are highly motivated for the duration of the training. As a result, more sticks.”

Experienceable learning content creates learning success

In the 15-minute computer game, the employees slip into the role of a detective and, as cybercrime experts, solve the case of a ransomware attack on the fictitious company "Maschinenbau Mayer". They learn how an employee became a victim of a social engineering trap and how the malware got into the company network. The background story with the detective story ensures positive emotions and motivation. A clearly defined goal creates a high level of intrinsic motivation throughout the training. The high level of interaction and emotions ensures that learners stay on the ball and internalize the content. So-called serious games entertain and educate employees at the same time.

Motivation for awareness training

“Today, serious games are an integral part of creating security awareness. Our new interactive game aims to increase employees' motivation for awareness training," explains Hendrik Flierman, Vice President Global Sales & Marketing at G DATA CyberDefense. “The game has two advantages for our partners. You can offer it to existing customers as a supplement to security awareness training and convince new customers of the need for security awareness.”
