Trend Micro, one of the world's leading providers of cyber security solutions, received the attestation according to the criteria of the C2023:5 standard (Cloud Computing Compliance Criteria Catalogue) in January 2020. These are based on the catalog of requirements of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and have become the recognized security standard for cloud computing in Germany.
The Japanese company thus offers its customers cloud security based on Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for a modern and up-to-date level of security that meets the strict and demanding criteria of the BSI.
C5: Cloud security according to BSI criteria
The C5 catalog has existed since 2016. It is a uniform, third-party, independent certificate for cloud service providers in Germany. The security measures for cloud computing are based on the basic requirements of the IT baseline protection of the BSI and additional C5 criteria. The attestation helps companies to check the security and protection level of cloud providers and to compare it with their own requirements. Based on the criteria, an individual cyber risk assessment is possible. Currently, the catalog includes 114 requirements in 17 domains, covering a full spectrum of cloud security and resiliency capabilities.
The Trend Micro solutions, based on the recognized security standard of the BSI, represent a central building block for a modern security architecture. The use of SaaS technologies not only offers customers new possibilities for attack detection, but also a holistic and proactive view of the individual cyber risk. This makes it even easier for critical infrastructure, government agencies and businesses to increase their resilience to an increasingly complex cyber threat landscape.
Authorities must use C5 as a minimum requirement
The standard is particularly important for authorities: The BSI has defined a minimum requirement for the security of cloud services based on Section 8 of the BSI Act. According to this, federal authorities are obliged to define the criteria of the C5 catalog as a minimum standard if they use cloud offers - this has already applied to the award of contracts since 2020. Foreign cloud providers must also meet these criteria in order to counter the growing cyber risk.
The following Trend Micro solutions receive the C5 attestation
- Trend Micro Cloud App Security
- Trend Micro Cloud One - Endpoint & Workload Security
- Trend Micro Cloud One - Application Security
- Trend Micro Cloud One—Conformity
- Trend Micro Cloud One - Network Security

“The C5 catalog supports customers as a guide when choosing a cloud provider and is becoming increasingly relevant in both the public and private sectors. We are very pleased that we have received this important certificate and can thus further strengthen the trust of our customers in our security solutions," explains Marc Schiener, Technical Director Germany at Trend Micro.
