Clear the way for the state Trojan

On June 10.06.2021, the Bundestag passed the law to adapt the constitutional protection law. One of the changes is that the so-called state trojan can no longer only be used for serious criminal offenses, but also preventively! A statement from Avast.

“The dilemma of the state trojan is exemplary for the digital age, since data-protecting cryptography limits the authorities' ability to access decrypted communication. The government then turns to solutions that reduce security and privacy for all of us by attempting to weaken encryption, exploit vulnerabilities, or instruct companies to give them access. Or they resort to the market for dubious tools, and as we have already seen with the example of FinSpy, such tools can quickly fall into the wrong hands.

Then they can be used worldwide not only to fight terrorism or to apprehend pedophiles, but also, for example, to monitor communications by journalists. Avast is committed to protecting the digital privacy of our users, and the state trojan is technically a trojan like any other that tries to spy on the user without his knowledge. For anti-virus software, it does not matter whether a government uses it to potentially thwart criminal offenses, a regime uses it to prosecute critical opponents of the state, or cyber criminals use it to access personal data.

State Trojan detected = deleted

Every Trojan, every spyware and stalkerware is automatically recognized as unwanted malware on a computer or smartphone by modern technologies such as machine learning, blocked and reported to our users. Jaya Baloo, Avast's chief information security officer.
