AV-TEST Awards 2020: Award for the best IT security products. Many security manufacturers receive one of the coveted trophies of the renowned security test laboratory, such as Bitdefender, F-Secure, Kaspersky or Trend Micro.

Only the best in the IT security industry are allowed to adorn themselves with this trophy, the AV-TEST Award. In order to maintain it, it is necessary to carry out regular tests that have been proven to be top performance over the course of a full year. The management of the AV-TEST Institute is now announcing which corporate and end-user products have earned the internationally recognized award for IT security in 2020 with top test marks in the categories PROTECTION, PERFORMANCE and USABILITY for Windows as well as ANDROID SECURITY and MAC SECURITY.

A year of extreme challenges

Looking back, the past year turned out to be a real challenge for IT security products. On the one hand, there was a large number of extensive cyberattacks in almost all areas of public life in 2020. Whether government servers, the IT infrastructure of industrial companies, research institutions and telecommunications companies, all of them were increasingly being targeted by cyber criminals. On the other hand, the number of newly developed malware programs analyzed by AV-TEST grew by almost 110 million malware samples to the second highest value since the beginning of collection in 1984. At that time, the situation with 12 known malware samples was still quite manageable.

Awards: Distinguish against competitors

However, 2020 was also the year of opportunities for IT security products to clearly distinguish themselves from the competition. Apart from the rapidly growing numbers of malware, the past year not only presented people around the world with previously unimagined challenges, it also demanded top performance from IT security products. With almost a third of all employees moving to the home office as a result of Covid-19, protection programs for many private users suddenly became the last line of defense between the Internet and the company network. Likewise, completely new requirements applied to business applications in the fight against cybercrime. Because all kinds of cyber criminals knew how to use the time of uncertainty for themselves. In view of this explosive situation, only IT security products that were technically absolutely state-of-the-art offered companies and private users optimal protection during the crisis.

Proven top performance

The AV-TEST Institute is now honoring 19 products with its internationally renowned awards for proven top performance over the entire year and under extreme conditions. With this, the institute honors top performance by manufacturers in the field of research and development, but above all the outstanding protective effect for end customers and companies over the one-year test period in 2020. The best products are awarded in the categories PROTECTION (protective effect), PERFORMANCE (speed), USABILITY ( Usability), ANDROID SECURITY and MAC SECURITY.
