Security: Recovering from a ransomware attack

To provide organizations with more security when recovering from a ransomware attack, Rubrik Cyber Recovery and Rubrik Security Cloud offers the ability to test and validate recovery plans.

Available as part of Rubrik Security Cloud, Rubrik Cyber Recovery introduces two new capabilities to help organizations better prepare for cyberattacks and minimize operational downtime. It provides an easy way to test, validate, and document recovery plans. Furthermore, Rubrik Cyber Recovery helps organizations instantly recover the last known clean copy of data while conducting forensic analysis in an isolated environment.

Organizations struggle to prepare for and respond to ransomware attacks and other cyber incidents. Based on the first edition of the "State of Data Security” report by the Cybersecurity Research Unit Rubrik Zero Labs, 92 percent of IT and security leaders worldwide fear not being able to maintain business continuity during an attack. Almost a third of board members surveyed have little or no confidence in being able to recover business-critical data and applications after a cyberattack. Today's organizations need an easy way to quickly test their recovery plans and analyze the threat landscape - without delaying the recovery of mission-critical processes.

"It's important that we have confidence in our data recovery plan," said Dan Gallivan, IT director at Payette, an award-winning architecture firm. “With Rubrik, we can now plan ahead, have our actions verified, and safely recover in the event of a cyber attack. This certainty is critical not only for our IT and security teams, but for the entire organization.”

Features for IT and security teams

  • Ability to test recovery plans: Rubrik Cyber Recovery enables organizations to easily test, validate and document their contingency plans. At the same time, they can collect performance metrics and ensure they are meeting recovery SLAs. Users can not only test whether their emergency plan works, they also have an overview of processes, schedules and sources of error. If necessary, those responsible can download reports on the performance of the recovery measures and thus provide evidence of regular tests of the recovery functions.
  • Clone backup snapshots for faster security testing: Organizations have the ability to clone snapshots in isolated environments so officers can use destructive testing to more quickly assess and improve their own cyber defense capabilities.
  • Perform forensic analysis during recovery: In isolated environments, IT and security leaders can forensically examine infected snapshots while quickly restoring business continuity using snapshots.

“IT and security teams are under increasing pressure to enable recovery from a cyberattack. Yet board members and leadership teams are not confident in being able to do just that,” said Dan Rogers, President at Rubrik. “Cyber Recovery rubric helps regain the trust of board members and executives. It enables organizations to reliably and predictably recover data and applications after a cyber incident. IT and security teams can also demonstrate their operational readiness. These innovations in the Security Cloud category offer our customers improved protection measures for data security.”

Data observability available in the cloud

In addition to announcing Rubrik Security Cloud, Rubrik announces support for ransomware monitoring and investigation, and sensitive data monitoring and management in Microsoft OneDrive and SharePoint, NAS Cloud Direct, and Azure Virtual Machines. Organizations gain better insight into how ransomware impacts and compromises sensitive data in high-risk, cloud-based workloads. Rubrik will extend its capabilities to other cloud workloads, helping customers protect their data, whether it resides on-premises, in the cloud, or in SaaS applications.
