The renowned SANS Institute has examined the possibilities of the Network Detection and Response (NDR) platform NovaCommand from Forenova. A comment from Matt Bromiley, SANS Digital Forensics and Incidence Response Training Expert and Leader.

NovaCommand detects and combats attacks at the network level. The solution also offers small and medium-sized companies a highly visualized 360-degree view of all data traffic and ensures sophisticated anomaly detection. The solution reduces possible damage for small and medium-sized companies - for example from ransomware or hacked IoT devices - through early, automated reactions to attacks and thus minimizes the business risk.

AI and machine learning help

With the help of artificial intelligence, NovaCommand identifies every asset in the network and analyzes the complete metadata and all network traffic - both internal traffic ("East / West") and external communication ("North / South"). The platform is designed in such a way that it is fully GDPR-compliant and can be integrated with other existing defense technologies such as endpoint security, EDR, firewall, SIEM and SOAR. Simple and inexpensive, it is aimed at small and medium-sized companies and organizations.

The SANS Institute highlights the following functions

  • Real-time visibility of the entire network of a company with immediate background information and identification of assets.
  • Automatic classification of servers and non-server assets. This enables granular control of assets. The expected data traffic of each group can be evaluated in comparison to the actual data traffic.
  • Powerful tool with threat detection and defense against security-relevant events via one platform.
  • The detection and response is network-centric for companies. It also takes north-south and east-west traffic into account.
  • Integration of third-party solutions to easily integrate NDR with other security applications already in place.
