The Neue Züricher Zeitung – NZZ reported an attack on its network a few days ago and was therefore unable to publish it in full. Since various radio stations also use the IT network of NZZ through company participations, the latter could not broadcast their planned program. Apparently there was a ransomware attack after the first signs.

It was quickly noticed how strongly some editorial offices of newspapers, radio and TV are linked to the NZZ network. According to initial information, there was a ransomware attack that partially shut down the network. While some issues of the NZZ could not appear in full, the ePaper was also affected. Those responsible at NZZ IT have already analyzed the attack together with external specialists and experts from the National Center for Cyber Security (NCSC) and the Zurich cantonal police.

Newspaper, radio and TV affected

According to information from Blick.ch, the attack affected radio station FM1, as well as the online platform FM1 Today, television station TVO and other editorial offices of CH-Media-Verlag. Since the NZZ media group has a stake in CH Media, there was this chain reaction through the NZZ network.

It is not clear which ransomware was used in the attack. There is also no information about the attack on the relevant leak sites. It is to be hoped that the perpetrators have not captured any special data.
