More resiliency with SaaS data backup

Share post

Over the past year, the cybersecurity world has faced many different challenges. Many companies not only had to deal with the consequences of global crises, but also experienced an increase in increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks with phishing or ransomware. Time for more resiliency with SaaS data backup.

The last year has shown that in many places there is still too little investment in IT security. Although the news of successful cyber attacks, which often lead to business interruptions and data loss, is piling up, protection against such incidents does not yet seem to have the highest priority for all companies. The question is no longer whether a company will be the target of a cyber attack, but when.

Cyber attack: not if, but when

It is precisely at this point that the coming year will again bring many challenges. Because it can be assumed that companies will also be confronted with an increase in cyber attacks in 2023. But not only the number of attacks will continue to rise, their quality could be much more worrying. The hackers will continue to adjust their attack methods so that they adapt even more precisely to the habits of their victims. Clever social engineering tactics put employees and those responsible in the crosshairs, because the biggest weak point is and remains the human factor. It thus opens the door to the company network, because a compromised e-mail account is often sufficient.

Preventative against cyber attacks

But what can companies do against the risk of cyber attacks? In the first step, the topic of IT security should be discussed at board level and the budget for suitable measures, such as employee training, e-mail security or XDR, should be increased. Because CSOs and IT teams can only adequately secure the company if they have sufficient capacities and resources. As a second step, companies should think about backing up all their systems, because data backup solutions are the reinsurance in case of an emergency. However, more and more companies underestimate the risk of losing their data within SaaS applications, such as Office 365 or Salesforce. Because backing up this data is not the responsibility of the provider, but of the companies themselves. In the event of a ransomware attack, a backup is indispensable and should therefore not be missing from any effective cybersecurity strategy.

A healthy awareness of the risks in the area of IT security and a SaaS data backup are the first targeted steps towards more resilience to cyber attacks and help companies to successfully master the challenges of the new year.
