Barracuda introduces new Web Application and API Protection (WAAP) capabilities. New technology integration with Venafi Trust Protection Platform. Added to this is the continuously automated API detection with machine learning.

Barracuda announces the expansion of its Web Application and API Protection (WAAP) platform Barracuda Cloud Application Protection. The new platform release adds powerful new automated API discovery and GraphQL security features, expands account takeover protection capabilities, and improves the functionality of client-side protection.

Automated management of machine identities

In addition, the integration of the Barracuda Web Application Firewall and the Venafi Trust Protection Platform enables continuous automated management of machine identities for TLS certificates to avoid failures and easily scale the use of the web application firewall.

The new release of Barracuda Cloud Application Protection includes continuously automated API detection with machine learning to improve compliance and security. This feature significantly reduces the administrative burden of importing API specifications and configuring protections, enabling development teams to rapidly build and deploy secure APIs.

The new functions at a glance

  • New updates to the Barracuda Cloud Application Protection Platform provide powerful, easy-to-use web application, API, and bot protection capabilities to protect against increasingly sophisticated threats. Another novelty is the technology integration with the Venafi Trust Protection platform.
  • Barracuda Cloud Application Protection now enables continuous security compliance for web applications, including protection against advanced account takeover and client-side supply chain attacks.
  • As part of Barracuda Cloud Application Protection updates, Barracuda WAF-as-Service now includes new control and visualization capabilities, provides easier configuration management, and allows for seamless integration with automation tools.

Other features of the new platform version are:

  • New GraphQL security features that include natively parsing such requests and performing security checks to protect against GraphQL-specific attacks.
  • New Privileged Account Protection (PAP), powered by a layer of machine learning, identifies risky logins and performs preconfigured actions to prevent account takeover attacks.
  • • Advanced Active Threat Intelligence (ATI)-level machine learning models powered by Barracuda Advanced Bot Protection to identify and detect stubborn bots. In addition, ATI's configuration feedback loop has been improved, allowing administrators to perform configuration actions from the cloud dashboard.
  • • Enhanced controls for client-side protection over configuration and visualization of content security policies and sub-resource integrity settings. The client-side protection capabilities in Barracuda Cloud Application Protection align closely with the protection requirements that are specified to defend against attacks such as Magecart and other website supply chain attacks.
  • • New features for Barracuda WAF-as-a-Service simplify management tasks. The new Snapshots feature allows configurations to be imported and exported as a JSON file for easier integration with automation tools. In addition, administrators can perform comparisons between snapshots and set up automatic snapshots for easier configuration management. The improved CDN user interface offers customers new control and visualization possibilities.

The new technology integration of Barracuda Web Application Firewall and Venafi Trust Protection Platform provides a fully functional, unified solution that allows secure, centralized and automated management of certificates and keys via Barracuda Web Application Firewall. This integration increases the security of the managed machine identities and eliminates the consequences associated with certificate-related downtime and risks.
