The IT security manufacturer ESET has presented its latest version of ESET Cyber Security for macOS. The security solution for Mac computers has numerous new and improved functions. In addition to protection against the latest cyber threats, ESET Cyber Security for macOS now also offers native support for ARM.

ARM processors have become increasingly popular as chipsets in recent years due to their high performance and low energy consumption. This has resulted in the ARM-based mobile computing market now outperforming the traditional x86-based mobile computing market in both revenue and unit sales.

Native ARM support

“We've been working on native support for ARM CPUs for a while. This enables us to offer our customers even more powerful protection with their Apple devices,” says Mária Trnková, Vice President of ESET's Consumer and IoT segment. "The changes we've made to the underlying architecture of ESET Cyber Security for macOS provide more stability and better performance. The result: even faster and more efficient scanning than ever before.”

New architecture of the ESET solution for macOS

The new security architecture of ESET Cyber Security for macOS is based on so-called microservices. This means the components run in a more secure and performance-optimized way. Users can look forward to greater stability and reliability. The security solution is also leaner than ever before.

Microservices are more resource-efficient and help save battery life. In other words, each component of ESET Cyber Security for macOS starts only when needed and runs for the time allotted to it. After that, it will be automatically deactivated.

Improved features

ESET Cyber Security for macOS v7.3 combines the best technologies from the European IT security manufacturer, tailored to the needs of Mac users, including:

  • Anti-Phishing - Protection against malicious HTTP websites. These try to get sensitive data such as user names, passwords, bank details or credit card information.
  • Virus and spyware protection - eliminates all types of modern threats, including viruses, worms and spyware.
  • Cross-platform protection - prevents malware from spreading from macOS to Windows endpoints and vice versa. This prevents a user's macOS from becoming an attack platform for Windows threats.
  • ESET LiveGrid Technology - Whitelist safe files based on a file reputation database in the cloud.
  • Web and Email Scanning - Scan websites as you browse and check all incoming email for viruses and other threats.
