ESET NetProtect: DNS-based protection offers real value for mobile operators and ISPs - Internet providers. The security solution, specially tailored for telcos and ISPs, protects customers at the push of a button in domestic and mobile networks.

The European IT security manufacturer ESET has released a new product range for mobile network operators and Internet providers (Telco and ISP) to offer users even more comprehensive protection. Cybercrime is and will remain an ongoing problem, as ESET researchers also show in their latest threat report. Digital attacks are increasing every day and smartphones are currently particularly affected. Tailored specifically for telcos and ISPs, the ESET NetProtect solution enables service providers to comprehensively protect their customers against Internet threats such as malicious websites and services as well as phishing attacks.

ESET NetProtect offers strong protection thanks to DNS filtering

ESET NetProtect secures smartphones, home and IoT devices regardless of the operating system. The solution can be used for internet connections (fiber optic, DSL, cable and others) as well as in the mobile network (5G, 4G, 3G, 2G). The new offer includes ESET NetProtect for Mobile and ESET NetProtect for Mobile Advanced, which protect connected devices in mobile networks, as well as ESET NetProtect for Home Advanced, which protects the fixed line in the home.

ESET NetProtect solutions protect internet communication with a DNS filter. The Domain Name System (DNS) works like a kind of phone book. The user enters the website (e.g. www.eset.de) and it is "looked up" by the DNS and converted into the associated IP address (quasi the telephone number).

Filtering of all IP addresses

Within this process, ESET checks the requested IP addresses whether they are known to be malicious and blocks websites if they contain malware, phishing or potentially unwanted content. In addition, both the providers and the users can create black and white lists, each have access to their own management portal and receive regular security reports on the blocked content. The reports give users insight into how ESET protects their devices, summarizing information about detected threats, blocked websites and more. With the advanced solutions, the basic function is supplemented by a web content filter, which can be used to filter access to websites based on user categories - similar to parental controls.

Protection independent of the operating system

In addition, the solution can be fully adapted to the corporate design of the provider. ESET NetProtect does not serve as a replacement for a security solution on the endpoint, but as a supplement. The additional benefit compared to pure endpoint protection is that security is guaranteed regardless of the operating system or Internet access. This plays an important role, especially when it comes to smart homes and smart devices. These devices often do not have a suitable operating system or sufficient storage space to install anti-virus software. ESET NetProtect solves this problem by securing communications over the Internet. The solution also offers additional protection for devices such as iPhones or iPads, as well as for users who use a browser on their Android smartphone that is not supported with regard to certain functions such as phishing protection.
