Data security and data management

A leader in data security and management presents the new software version 7.0 of Cohesity Data Cloud. It offers customers additional functions for data security.

Cyber attacks are becoming more and more sophisticated and companies therefore want to implement comprehensive defense strategies in order to continue their business operations if the worst comes to the worst. Above all, they want to improve the security and management of their data by following a data-centric approach to cyber resilience. This includes core capabilities such as data immutability, data isolation (or cyber-vaulting), and near-instant recovery of data at scale. Cohesity addresses these challenges in today's threat landscape and covers all of these elements, including fast and reliable recovery.

Data Cloud 7.0

With Cohesity Data Cloud 7.0, organizations can strengthen their cyber resilience with the following capabilities:

  • Privileged Access: Access controls for Cohesity Data Cloud have been tightened, allowing privileged administrative accounts to be more tightly controlled and their access permissions better managed and protected. These controls make it even more difficult for cybercriminals to tamper with backup data. Innovative features like split-key require multiple people to authenticate for privileged access to administrative controls. Thus, no single administrator can issue privileged commands alone. This helps protect the data from malicious actors.*
  • Faster recovery of files and objects after ransomware attacks: Cohesity offers unified file and object services on its platform. Now the company is improving cyber resilience with Cohesity SmartFiles. Powerful new data lifecycle capabilities reduce the attack surface for data exfiltration. For example, they regulate that data is not kept longer than necessary. In addition, user-defined security policies help protect unstructured data from unauthorized access and attacks. The new version also introduces new functions for analyzing and visualizing the data on third-party NAS systems. These insights will help organizations move data into SmartFiles to ensure secure long-term retention and data immutability. At the same time, they support customers in optimizing costs and the scale and performance of the most important applications.
  • Reduced attack surface with expanded platform and workload support: Businesses can reduce their attack surface by consolidating multiple point products. Accordingly, version 7.0 now supports AWS GovCloud for protecting target data and metadata, as well as other storage targets for long-term retention. It is also compatible with local backups on 645rd party platforms such as Lenovo SR360, HPE DL380 and DL220, Cisco UCS C6M240 AFC and C6 M740 and Dell XNUMXXD for private cloud installations.

"Enterprises face major challenges in managing and securing their data in the cloud and on-premises, with ransomware and data theft being their top concerns," said Wolfgang Huber, head of the DACH region at Cohesity. “Protecting and securing data begins before an attack occurs. Both lay the foundations for organizations to mitigate attack damage and recover quickly from the crisis with minimal business impact. Cohesity Data Cloud 7.0 delivers a new level of protection and recovery for organizations' most important data. We see our customers constantly face threats from malicious external and internal actors. With these latest enhancements, they can address these challenges immediately.”

Rapidly growing data volume

As data grows rapidly, the simplicity and efficiency of managing, protecting, and recovering unstructured and distributed data helps accelerate recovery from failures and attacks. With expanded coverage, organizations can simplify data resiliency with a scalable platform that supports their diverse, heterogeneous environments.

"Enterprises are looking for easy ways to improve data security and meet their cyber resiliency goals," said Randy Kerns, senior strategist and analyst at Evaluator Group. “With ransomware attacks on the rise, it's imperative that organizations not only have strong protection against external threats, but also prioritize internal vulnerabilities. With software version 7.0, split-key and KMS auto-failover capabilities are just a few of the many cyber resiliency capabilities that Cohesity is adding to its portfolio to provide its customers and partners with a comprehensive strategy to protect data from cyberattacks.”
