Bitdefender has introduced its GravityZone Security for Mobile, an extension of the well-known security platform GravityZone that works completely cloud-based. This means that Unified Security is now also available on Android, iOS and Chromebooks.

Businesses can now identify and respond to cyber threats to Android, iOS-based devices and Chromebooks as quickly as possible. End customers as well as Managed Service Providers (MSPs) also benefit from full visibility of their mobile IT infrastructure.

Worldwide are more than 6,8 billion smartphones in use, many of which are also used in a business context, sometimes as "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD). These offer numerous starting points for attacking vulnerabilities in apps and mobile operating systems. Companies and organizations in all sectors are therefore under increasing pressure to focus their own IT security on their rapidly growing attack surface caused by mobile devices.

Mobile threats, most notably phishing, ransomware, and zero-day attacks, are on the rise. It is not for nothing that the experts from Gartner say that "in 2025 more than half of the companies will use a security solution for iOS and Android hardware." (1). The analysts highlight one finding in particular: “We have evidence that some of the most widespread attacks in recent history have used mobile hardware at some point in the attack process.”

Point of Attack Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

“Companies continue to rely on a mobile and distributed workforce. They often use their personal devices to access corporate networks and resources, giving hackers additional vulnerabilities to attack,” said Andrei Florescu, Deputy General Manager and Senior Vice President Products at Bitdefender Business Solutions Group. “Cyber criminals are increasingly using mobile devices as starting points for their attacks. An innovative solution for detecting and defending against threats to the mobile infrastructure is therefore a business-critical part of the overall IT security strategy. GravityZone Security for Mobile is another example of how we are enabling attack prevention and protection across all platforms, helping organizations protect their data and increase cyber resiliency.”

Bitdefender GravityZone Security for Mobile uses market-leading anti-malware technology and extensive threat intelligence. GravityZone Security for Mobile enables companies to record all installed apps on mobile devices and thus track and monitor the IT security status of a device. The new solution also protects against malicious apps and phishing attacks.

Gravity Zone Security for Mobile offers important functionalities

Security for mobile devices

GravityZone Security for Mobile employs powerful anti-malware technology combined with real-time threat intelligence and machine learning. By analyzing both on-premises and cloud-based data, malicious applications can be detected as well as known and zero-day attacks. It already checks mobile applications upon installation and monitors mobile endpoints to ensure compliance guidelines as well. The integrated anti-phishing technologies are highly effective and do not affect system performance. Finally, integrated URL filters prevent access to compromised websites.

protection of the network

The solution detects network-based threats based on the MITER ATT&CK Frameworks. Attacks against mobile devices originating in the company network can also be reliably detected and stopped. This applies, for example, to attempts to collect information about the IT infrastructure and information systems undetected over a long period of time and thus to be able to plan attacks in a targeted manner. It also detects weak security connections and man-in-the-middle attacks designed to intercept multi-factor authentication codes sent to mobile devices.

Detect and protect devices

GravityZone Security for Mobile monitors devices for existing vulnerabilities, lack of encryption, jailbreaking, root access, and outdated or missing updates.

Integration into existing security solutions

GravityZone Security for Mobile integrates with the Bitdefender GravityZone console for a unified management tool. In this way, IT security is extended beyond traditional endpoints without having to forego centralized management. GravityZone Security for Mobile complements existing Mobile Device Management (MDM), Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM), Unified Endpoint Management and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems. The protection can be set up very easily on all mobile endpoints.

Completely cloud based

GravityZone Security for Mobile is cloud-based and offers the possibility of uncomplicated security management for any type of mobile environment. The implementation on the end devices takes place without interruption and without any interaction with the user. Security on employees' mobile devices is thus becoming the default status.

Comprehensive visibility for more compliance

Companies that are subject to compliance rules must know and document the status of data protection and security including the installed apps on mobile devices. GravityZone Security for Mobile provides the real-time visibility needed to inspect applications, identify anomalous behavior in an app, and control app versions. It also detects and signals rejected applications, risky behavior of already installed applications such as isolating an app, turning off WiFi or Bluetooth, or disabling or uninstalling apps with certain file extensions.
